How Far a Little Goes

In 1991, my dad came to the USA with $5,000 in his pocket - the most money he's ever encountered in his lifetime. His parents refused to lend him the money. His tuition would be fully paid for by the university, but he still needed money to get settled in before he started his Mathematics PhD at Purdue.

It was a classmate, a Vietnam War hero, who backed his trip. Twenty-three years later he's acquired a net worth that is 1,000x the amount. The friend refused to accept his money back.

Imagine lending $5,000 and changing someone's life.
